Pregnancy Yoga - A time to bond with baby

Pregnancy is a magical life changing time.  However, It can at times feel very surreal! Our lives are more hectic than ever and it can feel like there are not enough hours in the day. As a result, it may feel challenging to take time out to bond with your growing baby. Pregnancy Yoga is an opportunity to press pause and do exactly this!

I am now pregnant with baby number two on the way. Personally,  I find it very difficult to find the time to focus on my pregnancy given I am running after a lively toddler most of the day! My prenatal practice allows me the luxury of time to reset and focus on my growing baby inside.

During MamaHugz Pregnancy Yoga, there are many ways we bond with baby during class.  One particular way is through the medium of breath. We use a breathing technique called " breathing for two".  A lovely technique to instill calm and focus and a lovely way to connect with baby.  Bringing one hand to heart and one hand to baby, inhale slowly through the nose, observe how the chest, belly and rib cage expand slowly. Imagine sending love and nourishment to your beautiful baby growing inside. Exhale slowly feeling a sense of release.

Positive affirmations are another fantastic way to bond with baby . Throughout our pregnancy yoga class we use positive birth affirmations ( my favourite are from " feel the glow affirmations' ') to press pause and introduce positive messages to our subconscious mind.

Finally, Savasana is a precious time to bond with baby. At the end of class, we make sure we are as comfortable as possible with the help of lavender eye masks, aromatherapy and comfortable cushions. Once comfortable, I read a birthing script which aims to target  the subconscious mind again by sending positive messages surrounding pregnancy and birth. A special time to release fear, bond with baby and look forward to birth with positive expectations.

Pregnancy Yoga truly is a special time to bond with baby. A time to press pause and enjoy the journey.
